The initiative of this platform is anchored in my deep curiosity and enthusiasm about the future of African cities. On a continent with an average age below 20 years old, I strongly believe the best for our cities is ahead of us.
Starting in 2020, I started a quest to build meaningful companies that shape the future of the continent. This quest led me down the path of creating a think tank, getting a policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School, and building a service marketplace with 7k users. These companies had different levels of success (and failures), reconnected me to the continent after a decade in the US and helped me grow a network of top notch professionals. The insight that persisted through this journey was that information asymmetry between capital and operations keeps rewarding bad actors and eroding the trust of good capital. I have seen it playing out time and again as a professional, entrepreneur and early on through my journey of living and working in 8 African cities.
Prtfolio's goal is to bridge this gap in the real estate market in Africa. From listing websites to developers and real estate professionals, we noticed the market is full of professionals who are incentived to sell an asset. And the only professionals paid to protect buyers from buying the wrong assets come at a steep cost. We are the only platform buyer/investor funded platform that allows its users to due diligence multiple assets at a fraction of a price. Our goal is to reduce the opacity of the real estate market for individual investors who commit a significant amount of their capital to the built environment in our growing cities.
I hope you enjoy sifting through our maps, listings and briefs. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any questions.
